3-Ring Binder This book is often referred to as "The Chinchilla Bible." I agree. It is the most thorough book we have seen about chinchillas. If you only own one book about chinchillas, this is the one to get. Be warned, however, that it is written for fur ranchers, so there are some pictures and chapters you will probably want to avoid. |

Hardbound This is another good beginner's book. We often see this book in local pet stores. It has lots of photos and covers the "basics" of chinchilla ownership. This is not the book for in-depth discussions, but it does provide a good overview of many topics. If you already own a chinchilla, you'll probably want to consider obtaining one of the more detailed references available.

125 Pages This book was orginally written in German and then translated into English. It is written by an experienced chinchilla rancher. Because the author's background is raising chinchillas for pelts (rather than as pets), often the perspective is from how to care for an entire "herd." The main emphasis is on breeding chins and the information is first rate. The book includes lots and lots of photos, many in color.

Plastic Spiral Bound This is a very informative book for the new pet chinchilla owner. It covers the basics of chinchilla care with a strong emphasis on chinchillas as pets (vs. raising chinchillas for pelts). While not as detailed as Alice Kline's book, if you only had one book about pet chinchillas, this book would be a good choice. This book contains much practical advice and displays the authors' love for these animals. |
